Vendor Manager

A Vendor Manager is responsible for dealing with vendors or suppliers who supply goods or services to Commonwealth government departments / agencies. Ideally a vendor manager is responsible for the relationship between the department and the vendor.

To explain further, every Commonwealth department agency enters into hundreds of contracts. Sometimes there will be multiple contracts with one supplier. One or more contract manager should be appointed to manage those contracts with this supplier, but those Contract Managers should report into a Vendor Manager who is the key contact and relationship point between the supplier and the Commonwealth.

In our view strong vendor management will go a long way to ensuring the Commonwealth receives value for money through its procurements / contracts.

Vendor Manager Job Description

Developing and maintaining relationships with key or strategic suppliers to the relevant department/agency
Liaising with vendors on current contracts and future work
Dealing with issues/disputes arising under a contract
Negotiating with vendors
Documenting future contracts
Overseeing contract managers ensuring that the contracts are managed in a proactive and appropriate mananer given the contract spend and risk profile
Monitor and provide reports on vendor performance.
Maintain a database of different vendors, and what service or solutions they are 'known for' in the market
Develop and propose process and procurement improvement strategies.

Job Requirements

Ideally a minimum of 2 years of experience in providing vendor management services for a Commonwealth or state department/agency.
Knowledge of the Commonwealth Procurement Rules, PGPA Act, Probity rules, and applicable rules and laws is a strong plus.
Experience in either undertaking contract management, or running a team of contract managers.
Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
Highly analytical with strong attention to detail.
Excellent problem-solving and negotiation skills

Salary Range

$80,000 to $240,000+

Security Clearance

Ideally you would hold, or be able to get, a Commonwealth security clearance at the TSPV, NV2, NV1 or baseline level.
